Christina Aguilera apologized this morning for mixing up the lyrics to the National Anthem before last night's Super Bowl XLV. In a statement, the singer explains she 'got so caught up in the moment of the song that I lost my place.'Bloggers and critics immediately pounded on Aguilera's error, which came during the first verse when she sang, 'What so proudly we watched at the twilight's last [unintelligible lyric],' instead of 'O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming.'
The statement continues, 'I can only hope that everyone could feel my love for this country and that the true spirit of its anthem still came through.'
Aguilera previously performed at the Super Bowl XXXIV halftime show in 2000.
